About us

The Chinese Urgent Action Working Group (人权卫士紧急救援协会) is a team of rights defenders working to assist other rights defenders and promote the development of rule of law. To achieve our goals, we work with a network of Chinese lawyers and academics, and through a broader (both domestic and international) network of researchers, reporters and diplomats, to provide timely and effective assistance through our three work programs, as well as to provide useful information through our publications.

The organization has operated since 2009, with the overall aim of strengthening a fledging system of rule of law, in particular through focus on implementation of existing substantional and procedural laws, which is often done unsatisfactory on a local level, and which allows for extensive violations of citizens rights. The Chinese Urgent Action Working Group's work is both active and reactive. We are active in the training of lawyers to take a contributing role in strengthening the rule of law, with our on-the-ground support for rights defenders through on going legal aid, and our support for administrative litigations. We are reactive in seeking the redress for already committed violations. By increasing resistance to rights violations through the legal system, it is our aim to increase the cost of ignorning existing rules and regulations, thus reducing the scope of legal violations.

The Chinese Urgent Action Working Group is a non-profit group. The organization can be reached at 'Contact@China-Action.org'.
